Information and Courses
To earn an LLM or MSL in Environmental, Natural Resources, and Energy Law from Lewis & Clark Law school, students must complete a total of 26 credit hours of coursework for U.S. students, and 28 for international LLM students. Students can choose from the wide variety of courses listed below.
These hours will include required and elective courses. Lewis & Clark Law School has one of the top environmental law programs in the United States, making these online LLM and MSL programs a great option for busy professionals, distance learners, or for students with family obligations.
Courses offered include:
- Administrative Law (required for US students unless taken as a JD; highly recommended for international students)
- Environmental Law (required for all students unless taken as a JD)
- Emerging Topics in Environmental, Natural Resources, and Energy Law (LLM students must take this one credit course twice - once in two different semesters)
- Introduction to US Environmental Law and Legal Studies (required for international LLM students and MSL students)
- Natural Resources Law & Science
- Hazardous Waste Law
- International Environmental Law
- Water Law
- Legal Research: Environmental Law
- Environmental Justice
- Ocean & Coastal
- Wildlife Law
- Individual research paper on environmental topic of student’s choice
*Please note these courses are not listed in the order that they need to be taken. Additional courses may be added or substituted. Generally, two courses and Emerging Topics will be offered each fall and spring semester. Some courses will also be offered in our summer session. Students are also welcome to take in person courses at LC at any time during the program. Contact us for a schedule of when each of the above classes will be offered.
