NOTE: This online course is required for international Environmental Law LLM students and Environmental Law MSL students. It is not open to domestic Environmental Law LLM students, JDs, or others.

  • Description: This course is mandatory for all Environmental Law MSL students and International Environmental Law LLM students who did not receive a law degree in a common law country. 
    The course is designed to acquaint these students with the foundations of U.S. law and methods of U.S. legal study, preparing them for success in their environmental law courses. Topics covered in the course include a basic introduction to the U.S. legal and governmental system and an overview of the U.S. administrative, constitutional, and environmental laws. This course will also familiarize students with U.S. legal writing, research methods, and typical U.S.-style law school exams. Students will be assessed through a written examination covering legal topics studied in the course, as well as through a short legal research paper.
