Biography
Simon Whang is a criminal defense attorney, at Thuemmel Uhle & Eder in Portland, Oregon. He attended Johns Hopkins University and New York University School of Law. Simon’s proudest professional achievement is working as a public defender representing indigent clients in Yamhill County’s defense consortium. He also served as a prosecutor in the Manhattan D.A.’s Office, the Multnomah County D.A.’s Office, and Oregon’s Division of Financial Regulations prosecuting securities and mortgage fraud cases. In the Oregon Department of Justice, Simon’s work in consumer protection fighting fraud helped victims of financial and elder abuse. He played a key role in DOJ’s OppenheimerFunds securities fraud litigation which recaptured $20 million for Oregon investors, and on the state attorneys’ general executive committee for the National Mortgage Settlement which brought $50 billion in relief to homeowners. Simon also served as a Deputy City Attorney in Portland.
Simon teaches and speaks on a wide variety of topics, including as faculty of Oregon State Bar’s Trial Advocacy College. He has served in leadership roles on the boards of the Oregon State Bar, Federal Bar Association, Oregon Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and Habitat for Humanity.
