Biography

Professor Felstiner teaches law students how to apply the law learned in the classroom to help clients achieve their goals and develop skills essential to the ethical practice of law. She enjoys mentoring law students as they launch their careers. She is dedicated to assisting low-income entrepreneurs with the legal services needed to pursue their passions and attain and maintain economic stability. With full professional fluency in Spanish, Professor Felstiner has years of experience providing culturally specific legal services to the Latino business community. She is a frequent speaker to business organizations and entrepreneurs in English and Spanish.

Prior to joining the law school in 2012, Professor Felstiner practiced with the law firm of Cable Huston in Portland, Oregon, for over fourteen years, representing businesses in transactional and litigation matters. Professor Felstiner counseled clients on a variety of business matters, including formation and governance, the negotiation and drafting of contracts, construction liens, and employment practices. She also litigated contract, employment, construction, and real estate disputes. Prior to joining Cable Huston, Professor Felstiner practiced criminal law as a Deputy District Attorney in Marion County, Oregon, and served on the Oregon District Attorney Association Legislative Committee.

Professor Felstiner is a private mediator and an arbitrator for the Multnomah County Circuit Court Arbitration program and the Arbitration Service of Portland. She is a founding member and served as President and Treasurer of the Oregon Hispanic Bar Association. She has served as Chair and Secretary of the Oregon State Bar International Law Section Executive Committee, Co-Chair of the American Association of Law Schools Clinical Section International Committee, and a member of the Steering Committee member for the Global Alliance of Justice Education. Professor Felstiner is a Fulbright Specialist and has consulted internationally on promoting economic development through the small business legal clinic model
