- Description: This course is a continuation of Lawyering I, which focuses on case analysis, case synthesis, statutory construction, research, written communication, oral advocacy and professionalism. During spring semester the class focuses on written and oral advocacy. Students analyze mock client files that raise more complex issues than those analyzed in the fall. These issues often involve statutory and regulatory schemes. Students may prepare an argumentative memorandum and a trial or appellate brief. In addition, students learn about oral advocacy. The year culminates with an oral argument, based on the trial or appellate brief, before a three-judge moot court panel at the Multnomah County Courthouse.

The American Bar Association accreditation standards require students to regularly attend the courses in which they are registered. Lewis & Clark expects students to attend classes regularly and to prepare for classes conscientiously. Specific attendance requirements may vary from course to course. Any attendance guidelines for a given class must be provided to students in a syllabus or other written document at the start of the semester. Sanctions (e.g., required withdrawal from the course, grade adjustment, and/or a failing grade) will be imposed for poor attendance.
