Student Life at Lewis & Clark Law

Your Life as a Law Student

Our students do their best when they find a healthy balance between school, work, and all the eclectic experiences offered in Portland. On campus, over 50 affinity groups, organized and led by students, connect you with peers and with the greater Portland and Pacific Northwest community.

  • Emilie Washer JD '25

When I first visited, I felt a genuine sense of community from each person that I met.

  • Elliad Dagan JD '24

The folks at L&C are surprisingly kind and collaborative. Before coming to law school, I heard horror stories of how competitive it can be. L&C boasted fostering a collaborative learning environment, and I am happy to report that it is genuine.

  • John Herrmann JD '24

L&C is a more collaborative and public interest-focused institution, instead of the stereotypical competitive atmosphere of other schools.

A Community Like No Other

Our law students find valuable networking opportunities and supportive communities through joining clubs and organizations on campus. Groups range from the academic-focused, like moot court and law review, to the recreational, like the Cycling Club. There are also numerous affinity-based groups including the Black Law Student Association, Women’s Law Caucus, and OutLaw, our LGBTQ+ student association.

Student organizations provide social outlets like movie nights, weekend hiking trips, and therapy dog visits, as well as networking and mentorship opportunities. Getting involved in these groups will help you to make meaningful connections with upper-division peers and professionals from the legal community, fostering a sense of belonging and support.
