Moses Mutemeri is an ecologist from Zimbabwe with a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Management. His conservation journey began in 2010 when he enrolled for his undergraduate studies, and in 2017 he was introduced to the field of animal law as one of the first volunteers at Speak Out For Animals (SOFA), the first animal law–dedicated organization in Zimbabwe, founded by a Lewis & Clark alumnus.
At SOFA, Moses served as Projects Coordinator, where he organized animal law trainings for prosecutors and law students, and played a central role in establishing animal law student chapters at two universities in Zimbabwe. These efforts contributed to the eventual introduction of animal law into university curricula.
Moses later joined Save Valley Conservancy, one of Zimbabwe’s largest private game reserves, where he currently works as a rhino ecologist for a globally recognized Key 1 rhino population. His responsibilities include rhino population monitoring and research, supporting court monitoring for poaching cases, and engaging in community-based conservation initiatives.
Looking ahead, Moses aspires to advance the animal law agenda in Zimbabwe and beyond, fusing his background in science, hands-on conservation work with rangers, and legal experience to help shape policy at both the national and international levels.
Center for Animal Law Studies is located in Wood Hall on the Law Campus.
