Nina van Stekelenburg

Netherlands
Online LLM Candidate ’27

Nina van Stekelenburg is a Dutch qualified lawyer with experience in European and Dutch law and a growing dedication to animal protection. After six years in private practice, where she advised on competition and antitrust, state aid and other fields of regulatory law, she realized that her skills could serve a wider purpose. This reflection has led her to focus increasingly on animal rights and on using legal tools to promote fairness and sustainability.

Nina completed her Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts in European Studies at the University of Amsterdam, where she built a strong foundation in European law. She went on to earn a Master of Laws in Public International Law, graduating cum laude with a thesis on the individual criminal liability of corporate executives of companies involved in international crimes. These studies deepened her interest in how law can serve the public good. Over time, her academic and professional experiences have come together in her commitment to exploring how law can be applied to promote more ethical systems.

In her current role in the public sector, she advises on EU and international legal frameworks, with a focus on supporting sustainable development. This work has strengthened her ability to analyze complex laws and translate them into practical solutions. Alongside her professional career, she has been active in initiatives that connect law, human rights, and animal welfare. Nina believes that meaningful change requires both policy and advocacy, and that even small legal steps can make a real difference. By engaging in projects that highlight animal welfare and environmental responsibility, she aims to contribute to building a more just and humane future.

Becoming part of the Lewis & Clark Animal Law community gives Nina the chance to deepen her knowledge in a place where respect for animals is at the heart of legal scholarship and community life. She is eager to stand alongside others who are working for a more compassionate world.
