Richard “Dick” Maizels JD ’66: A member of the Lewis & Clark Law School Board of Visitors, Dick is a former member of the Lewis & Clark Board of Trustees, and former president of the Lewis & Clark Law School Board of Alumni. For almost four decades, Dick Maizels was a sole practitioner with a mixed practice that included criminal defense, family law, personal injury and providing advice to businesses. Prior to forming his own firm, he served in the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office and joined two other deputy district attorneys in 1969 to form a private practice. During that time, Dick noted his admiration for many of the judges who served on the bench in the ’60’s and ’70’s. Dick also served as a Circuit Court Judge Pro Tem for Multnomah County where his years of extensive trial work was most helpful.
Dick earned his JD from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College in 1966. He earned a BA in economics from the University of Washington. In 2017, Dick and his spouse, Harriet Maizels, established the Richard and Harriet Maizels Scholarship with the intent of helping to fund the education of a Lewis & Clark Law School student with strong academic promise. Recipients are selected based on financial need and likelihood of being successful in law. Preference is given to first generation college graduates.
