Bob Scales

Bob Scales ’79

Bob is a lawyer who retired from his position as General Counsel of the Columbia Acorn Funds, a mutual fund complex in Chicago. He earned a BA in Philosophy from the University of Illinois; a JD from Lewis & Clark Law School; a Masters of Liberal Arts, from the University of Chicago, and in 2018, a Master of Arts in Religious Studies from the Divinity School of the University of Chicago. He was also an adjunct professor at the Chicago-Kent College of Law.

He has been and continues to be committed to nonprofit organizations and the humanities. He served for nine years on the board of Illinois Humanities and served on the boards of Reading Between the Lines (a nonprofit that provides humanities programs for incarcerated individuals), and Big Questions (Emmy Award winning production of public interest programming). He currently serves on the board of the Gorton Center, a nonprofit organization offering early childhood educational day care services and arts programming.

Bob lives in Lake Forest, Illinois, with his wife of 34 years, Mary Keefe, and their dog, Nellie.
They have two grown sons who live in Florida.

Three years ago, Bob and Mary purchased the Charles Glore, Jr. House, the only Frank Lloyd Wright home in Lake Forest, completed in 1954. The Glore House has received a preservation award from the Lake Forest Preservation Foundation.
