Gina Yates

United States
Online MSL Candidate ’26

Gina received a double BA in Theatre Arts and Psychology in 1998 from Portland State University. After graduation, she moved to Los Angeles where she has lived for 25 years.

Gina is an Emmy-nominated television producer. She spent nine seasons with a syndicated court show where she had the opportunity to work on small claims cases involving animal welfare. These included companion animal custody battles, emotional distress claims arising from improper treatment of animals, pet injury and healthcare disputes, and more. While neutrality is paramount in this line of work, Gina’s motto was always, “Justice for the animals.”

Several years ago, Gina became acquainted with an organization called Animal Defenders International (ADI). Their mission is to help facilitate the welfare and protection of animals worldwide, often working with legislators to do so. After volunteering on a project with ADI, Gina determined that her purpose in life was to assist animals as best she could.

In 2024, Gina became a certificated paralegal through UCLA, finishing at the top of her class. During her time as a student, Gina discovered the Animal Law MSL program at Lewis & Clark Law School. She knew immediately that she had found her path.

Whether she’s advocating for farm animals at the ballot box or campaigning for plant-based food in the workplace, Gina is dedicated to the ethical treatment of animals. She would like to spend the next chapter of her life working with ADI, or a similar nonprofit organization, assisting their legal team with matters of public policy, animal welfare investigations, research, and more.

Gina has two rescue kitties, Clawdio and Scarlett, that she loves beyond measure. She is taking the Animal Law MSL program in honor of them, as well as her beloved kitty Ariel (aka “Muffin”) who passed away in 2022.
