Cintia shifted to the United Kingdom fifteen years ago, where she pursued academic degrees and gained valuable professional experience. After completing her Bachelor of Science in Zoo Biology with honors at Nottingham Trent University, she became a member of the Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation in Greece. There, she showcased her skills as a policy researcher and editor, creating informative and diverse research content for various audiences. Cintia also contributed significantly by collecting and analyzing data on the sources and impacts of microplastics in the region. Additionally, she played a crucial role in planning conservation initiatives, including the development of a sustainable fishing practices training program for local fishermen.
Continuing to enhance her knowledge in sustainability and conservation, she earned a Master of Science in Management and Business with a focus on the environment from Birkbeck, University of London. Her academic journey led her to delve deeper into global affairs, the management of nonprofit organizations, and the context of Corporate Social Responsibility, showcasing her ability to navigate diverse research disciplines—ranging from economic analyses to legal frameworks and ethical considerations.
She is presently a doctoral candidate in Law at the Manchester Metropolitan University. Her research focuses on the post-Brexit vulnerability, specifically evaluating policy frameworks related to the conservation of marine migratory species in the North Atlantic—both pre- and post-Brexit. Additionally, she conducts governance analyses of the six Caribbean Islands that fall under the UK Overseas Territory. Her project also includes an investigation into the extent of non-governmental organizations’ participation in legislative reforms.
In conjunction with her doctoral research, she actively volunteered with several nonprofit organizations to uphold and enhance her professional competencies. As a communication assistant within the International Marine Team at the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, she contributed significantly to the Albatross Task Force Team. Her role involved generating innovative communication concepts and crafting compelling narratives related to albatross conservation efforts. Albatrosses: Inspiring Legends & Myths - BirdLife International In her capacity as a researcher within the Protected Areas Working Group of the IUCN National Committee for the UK, she played a pivotal role in conducting comprehensive research, drafting reports, and ensuring the availability of essential resources. Her contributions enable the team to develop and enhance the Statements of Compliance for Protected Areas and Other Effective Area-based Conservation Measures in the context of the 2023 review paper.
Furthermore, she is enhancing her engagement with the UK overseas territories by participating in various initiatives as part of the Overseas Territories Conservation nonprofit. This organization is dedicated to facilitating coordinated conservation efforts for the diverse and increasingly endangered plant and animal species, as well as natural ecosystems, across all the UK’s Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies.
Cintia has been granted a full scholarship by the Center for Animal Law Studies at Lewis & Clark Law School to participate in the Animal Law MSL (In-person) Programme. She aims to leverage this scholarship to immerse in the interdisciplinary realm, with a particular focus on marine wildlife policy and conservation research. Her professional aspirations revolve around a career in policymaking. She places considerable emphasis on conducting interdisciplinary research that contributes to the advancement of the field. Ultimately, her goal is to make meaningful contributions to academia and professionals alike, thereby influencing decision-making processes and advocacy efforts at both national and global levels.
