AJ Kroboth

Adjunct Law Faculty

Biography

AJ Kroboth (she/her) is an attorney and activist who has held leadership roles at leading animal protection organizations including Best Friends Animal Society, Mercy For Animals, and the Animal Legal Defense Fund. She began her career in private practice litigating high net worth family law cases, but after volunteering with her city’s animal shelter, she was inspired to shift her path to advancing justice for all living beings.

AJ has extensive experience in law and public policy: she launched Mercy For Animals’ government affairs team as its first hire and previously served as a Legislative Attorney for Best Friends Animal Society. Drawing on her background in litigation, policy, and executive leadership, she has built a reputation as a pragmatic yet zealous advocate for animals and social justice.

Most recently, AJ has transitioned her career to building talent pipelines to reform our food system, including developing the new Food System Reform Fellowship at The School for Moral Ambition.

She is a past chair of both the American Bar Association’s TIPS Animal Law Committee and the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Animal Law Committee, and has long been active in direct animal rescue. She founded and led the East Orange Animal Alliance, serves on the advisory board of Partners in Animal Welfare, and is board chair of Project Street Vet—an organization whose founder was recognized by CNN as the 2023 “Hero of the Year” for his work providing free veterinary care to companion animals of people experiencing homelessness.

AJ lives in California with her two rescue dogs and a rotating cast of fosters.
