What I am doing with my law degree: I am a Privacy Attorney for Zoom Video Communications, Inc. My work includes assisting Zoom’s product teams in creating products and features that are compliant with global data privacy laws and protect individuals’ privacy rights. This work includes creation of privacy documentation and protocols and constant analysis of how global data privacy laws apply to companies providing software as a service. Part of this area of law that I really enjoy is the opportunity to work in a field with constant evolution and that has the potential to positively impact people across the globe.
Best experience at Lewis & Clark: I loved how much the professors believe in their students. Having professors encourage my dreams was a part of attending Lewis & Clark that couldn’t be replaced. One specific experience is my interactions with my capstone advisor. I sought my professor’s advice about a legal writing competition not originally advertised through the school but related to my passions. I vividly remember discussing this competition with my professor and her excitement and support to enter. With her support, I not only entered the competition, but won and had a once in a lifetime opportunity of attending the Grammy Awards.
Why I focused on Intellectual Property Law: With a background in business and music, focusing on intellectual property law was my primary reason for becoming an attorney. Learning more about the laws directly relating to my passions was extremely important to me.
Advice for prospective and current law students: Take the classes that interest you, even if they don’t all fall within your chosen legal field. Law school is a time to explore your legal interests and it will be more challenging after law school to dive into legal topics that are outside of your practice area.
When I am not working: I love swimming, seeing live music, playing sports, and spending time with friends and family.
