Emma joined Kampmeier & Knutsen as an associate attorney in 2018. She has been practicing public interest environmental law since 2016, and she aims to provide expert legal representation to organizations and individuals seeking to protect the environment. Forest law is Emma’s passion, and she loves working to protect our nation’s critters and their habitats.
Originally from Wisconsin, Emma graduated from University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a bachelor’s degree in political science. After undergrad, she moved to Portland to take part in Lewis & Clark Law School’s exceptional environmental law program.
During law school, she was actively involved with several environmental nonprofits, including the Northwest Environmental Defense Center, Earthrise Law Center, and the Center for Biological Diversity. In her final year of law school, she honed her advocacy skills and gained insight into the judicial process while working as a judicial extern for the Honorable Michael H. Simon of the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon. In 2016, she graduated from Lewis & Clark magna cum laude with an environmental, natural resources, and energy law certificate. Upon graduating, she received the Williamson Public Interest Environmental Law Award for her dedication to the field and became a member of the Cornelius Honors Society.
Emma began her legal career as a fellow for Crag Law Center, where she gained comprehensive training in environmental litigation and advocacy. While at Crag, her work focused on protecting natural resources in forests and public lands throughout the Pacific Northwest, utilizing a wide array of federal laws, including the National Environmental Policy Act, National Forest Management Act, Endangered Species Act, Administrative Procedure Act, and Freedom of Information Act.
Emma is admitted to practice in the states of Oregon and Washington, as well as the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States District Courts for Oregon, the Western District of Washington, and the Eastern District of Washington.
In her free time, Emma enjoys cycling, baking, knitting, refinishing old furniture, and exploring the Pacific Northwest with her two pups.
