Alice Emerson

Assistant Dean for Career Services

Alice Emerson serves as the Assistant Dean for Career Services. She is committed to working with students, employers, alumni, and donors to maximize the creation of job and networking opportunities for Lewis & Clark Law students and graduates. Alice believes in developing and strengthening relationships with her students, alumni network, and employers to build trust and serve their individual needs. Alice advises students and plans programming on campus to broaden knowledge about options in the legal field, build relevant skills, and connect students with the legal market.

Prior to law school, Alice worked with children and families experiencing state involvement. Frustrations within that work led her to law school. During law school Alice was a member of the Public Interest Law Association, gained experience through the Children’s Rights  and Mediation Clinics, and studied abroad in Oxford.

Alice practiced child welfare law for over a decade before relocating to Oregon. She then spent 5+ years as an attorney with the Portland branch of a national firm doing Plaintiff’s side complex civil litigation. After approximately 19 years of legal practice, Alice joined Lewis & Clark and entered legal academia.

Outside of work, Alice can be found taking her dogs for romps in the forest, kayaking the Columbia, getting crafty with ceramics, or just enjoying a beautiful sunset.

For students, Alice is a primary career counselor for both private and public employment options. She works with the Career Services team to coordinate career events and programming, and create opportunities to expand knowledge of the varied opportunities within the law and the importance of cultivating a strong network.

For employers, Alice is happy to work with employers from all sectors and in any stage of the recruitment process, and can connect interested employers with our students for information sessions and events, or through job postings, resume collects, pop-up recruitments and formal recruitment events.

For alumni, Alice provides career advising well beyond school and is happy to connect alumni to students in networking and career exploration opportunities. We also love to bring our alumni back to campus to speak with students about their paths to practice and share their experiences

For donors, Alice is available to connect you with our giving team to discuss the impact that your donation to the Lezak Legacy Program, the Public Interest Law Project, or the Loan Repayment Assistance Program can have in making public interest possible for our students and alumni.
