Prisca Daka received our International Advocates Animal Law LLM Scholarship. From Zimbabwe, Prisca received her Bachelor of Laws (Honours) LLB, from the University of Zimbabwe in 2016. Before joining the program, she volunteered as a Legal Officer at Speak Out For Animals (SOFA), an organization focused on protecting animals through the legal system. During her time with SOFA, she helped the organization grow in law school through working with law students and organizing a presentation on animal law in 2017 at University of Zimbabwe featuring Natasha Dolezal. Prisca also acted as watching brief and contributed to the successful conviction of four poachers in July 2018 in a case involving a protected rhino. She is also a member and the national coordinator for the Global Youth Biodiversity Network, an international network of youth organizations and individuals from all over the world whose common goal is to halt the loss of biodiversity.
“One of the most amazing things about the Animal Law LLM program at Lewis & Clark Law School is having the flexibility to be creative and shape it according to your interests, career goals and that all students get individual attention. The program has a reputation of providing the most extensive animal law curriculum in the world and I applied because I believed it would be a stimulating environment for me in which to study at the post-graduate level. This expectation has been met far beyond expectation. This LLM program will definitely change your legal thinking while giving you skills and confidence to challenge the current boundaries of legal protection for animals.”
