Nkosana Maphosa

Nkosana is a next-generation animal law attorney, advocate, and researcher interested in Aquatic, Industrial Animal Agriculture, Wildlife, and International Animal Law. Upon completing his LLM in Animal Law, he intends to lead local but globally connected efforts to contemporaneously incorporate animal law issues in legal education and champion progressive animal law reforms in Africa.

Also, Nkosana is an emerging transformational leader and rule of law advisor whose value proposition is to assist countries, especially those in the Global South, to design and implement rule of law initiatives to spur sustainable economic development. He is interested in, among others, rule of law projects to create an enabling business environment; development finance; technical assistance; anti-corruption; procurement; institutional reforms; doctrine and strategy development; rule of law assessments; project management; and comparative lawyering. Nkosana’s insatiable interest in global and African affairs includes analyzing community needs and group involvement and collaborating to create sustainable economic development in Africa.

Nkosana is a phenomenal speaker who has provided briefings and presentations at the U.S. Department of State, the World Bank, and other Washington-based development organizations, embassies, and think tanks. He has also published, consulted, and delivered research papers on various rule of law themes in numerous high-level national and international events. Additionally, Nkosana has worked for and with several national and regional organizations.

Nkosana read for his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the University of the Witwatersrand, Master of Laws (LLM) in Rule of Law for Development at Loyola University Chicago, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Higher and Tertiary Education (PGDHTE) at Great Zimbabwe University. He is a recipient of multiple scholarships. He also holds various Advanced Human Rights Courses from the University of Pretoria: Right to Development in Africa; Indigenous Peoples’ Rights in Africa; Civil Society Law in Africa; African Human Rights System in Comparative Perspectives and Judicial Enforcement of Socio-economic Rights in Africa, among other certifications. Currently, Nkosana is a full-time law lecturer at Great Zimbabwe University.
