Oregon attorney Sarah Lora will lead the Lewis & Clark Law School Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) starting in June 2019.
Lora will replace beloved faculty member Jan Pierce, who is retiring this year after 19 years leading the clinic and serving as a clinical professor.
“While I realize I have very big shoes to fill, I am excited to begin working this summer session,” Lora said. “I am looking forward to teaching students not only how to practice tax law, but also how to manage a case from initial client intake to case closure and everything in between.”
Lora comes to the clinic with a background in representing underserved individuals on tax matters. Most recently she served as the Director of Legal Aid Services of Oregon’s Low Income Tax Clinic, specializing in language access, due process, and immigrant tax issues at the IRS and Oregon Department of Revenue. In October 2003, Lora served as an attorney in the farmworker program for the Legal Aid Services of Oregon where she represented farmworkers in a wide variety of employment issues, including tax controversy. She is a graduate of Brooklyn Law School in 2002 and served as a clerk for the Honorable W. Hunt Dumont.
In her new position at the LITC, Lora is excited to teach law students skills in interviewing, fact investigation, legal research, document and letter drafting, motion practice, discovery, trial preparation, and more.
“We are thrilled to welcome Sarah Lora as our newest clinical professor,” remarked Dean Jennifer Johnson. “Our students who have worked with Sarah at Legal Aid Services spoke highly of her teaching and mentoring style. We look forward to her leadership.”
