Law Professor Lectures Across Western Europe

Professor William Funk, the Robert E. Jones Professor of Law at Lewis & Clark Law School and a leading scholar of Administrative and Natural Resources Law, put his recent sabbatical to good use traveling and presenting his scholarship across Western Europe.  Professor Funk made stops in Mainz (Germany), Paris, and Luxembourg.

Professor Funk first taught a two-week course in American Constitutional Law at the University of Mainz. He then traveled to Paris for a conference on Contemporary American Law, hosted by the University of Poitiers in the Ecole de Mines (School of Mines). There, Professor Funk presented a session titled Le droit constitutionnel des États-Unis: variations et débats contemporains that focused on changes in American Constitutional Law. The conference at the Ecole De Mines included presentations by twelve American scholars on particular aspects of American law designed to respond to questions from French legal scholars.

After Paris, Professor Funk traveled to Luxembourg for a discussion forum hosted by the University of Luxembourg on Global Administrative Law and the Deterritorialization of Administrative Law. The forum included a trip to the European Court of Justice, where participants were afforded the opportunity to talk with the President of the General Court.  This two-day conference involved approximately two dozen scholars from the United States, Canada, Sweden, Israel, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, Australia, Italy, Japan, and the Netherlands.  Each scholar provided a paper in advance, with the majority of the forum dedicated to a rich and varied discussion of the scholarship.
