- Description: This course approaches legal research through an Animal Law lens, and is designed to build upon the research skills students have previously acquired in order to more thoroughly prepare them to undertake legal research in practice, academic, and collateral fields. In doing so, the course will both explore research logistics (e.g. resources; strategies) as well as research theory (e.g. legal research as a communicative endeavor; goals of research in within the law). Students can expect exposure to research techniques at a variety of jurisdictional and interdisciplinary levels, however, this course is not meant to provide detailed training on using any particular research platform. Students in this course will learn through a combination of lectures, graded assignments, in-class exercises and other activities. This course meets once every two weeks for approximately two hours a session.

The American Bar Association accreditation standards require students to regularly attend the courses in which they are registered. Lewis & Clark expects students to attend classes regularly and to prepare for classes conscientiously. Specific attendance requirements may vary from course to course. Any attendance guidelines for a given class must be provided to students in a syllabus or other written document at the start of the semester. Sanctions (e.g., required withdrawal from the course, grade adjustment, and/or a failing grade) will be imposed for poor attendance.
