• Description: The dialogue hopes to increase understanding of racism by examining our personal subconscious stereotypes, and to motivate participants to use that understanding to eliminate racism. To those ends, this course will explore the difficult process of racial identity development, i.e. how we grow to view ourselves and others in racial terms. This can be particularly difficult for those who are Euro-Americans, and who may be just starting to see themselves in racial terms. Gaining this awareness and understanding is a necessary first step for any who wish to combat the racism that plagues this country. Talking about race and racism is hard and often painful. The trained facilitators will use a combination of readings and videos to start conversations on topics including, racial identity development, implicit bias, white privilege, guilt, racial trauma and suggestions for future antiracism work. The course was created for those taking their first steps into this journey but all are welcome to join this conversation.
