Description: This seminar will provide foundational instruction in the concepts of reproductive rights and reproductive justice, and will then consider reproductive rights and justice within a historical and evolving legal context. We will use an intersectional lens to explore the evolution of constitutional and statutory rights related to pregnancy and the capacity for pregnancy. The class will also have a strong focus on policy development and legislative advocacy. Topics will include abortion and contraception; sterilization; pregnancy and employment rights; birth rights; criminalization of pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes; substance use and pregnancy; reproductive health privacy; crisis pregnancy centers, and the landscape of state-level policy responses and litigation following the Dobbs decision.

The American Bar Association accreditation standards require students to regularly attend the courses in which they are registered.
