Supreme Court
This seminar will track the docket of the current Supreme Court term and examine the makeup of the Court’s members. The course will examine both how the Court works as an institution and how individual justices approach and decide cases. Students will take turns conducting mock oral arguments of cases currently pending before Supreme Court. After each argument, the class will confer to discuss how it would decide the case and how the Court itself might. Students will also become familiar with the judicial philosophy of each sitting justice and will be required to submit a paper analyzing the work of one justice.
With prior professor permission, the paper may qualify for the WIE writing requirement.

Lewis & Clark expects students to attend classes regularly and to prepare for classes conscientiously. Specific attendance requirements may vary from course to course. Any attendance guidelines for a given class must be provided to students in a syllabus or other written document at the start of the semester. Sanctions (e.g., required withdrawal from the course, grade adjustment, and/or a failing grade) will be imposed for poor attendance.
