- Description: This class will explore current issues relating to sports law. Sports law is not a specific area or type of law, but rather a context in which to discuss many types of law. Matters considered will include: intellectual property, ethics, contracts, antitrust issues and employment law in professional sports, NCAA issues and the business of sports - athletes, agents, leagues and marketing. The course will combine discussions, guest lectures and student presentations. Students will be asked to prepare a co- authored paper and presentation to the class on a sports law issue of their choosing.

- Evaluation Method: 60% co-authored paper, 20% presentation of paper and 20% class participation

The American Bar Association accreditation standards require students to regularly attend the courses in which they are registered. Lewis & Clark expects students to attend classes regularly and to prepare for classes conscientiously. Specific attendance requirements may vary from course to course. Any attendance guidelines for a given class must be provided to students in a syllabus or other written document at the start of the semester. Sanctions (e.g., required withdrawal from the course, grade adjustment, and/or a failing grade) will be imposed for poor attendance.
