Description: This course covers the main aspects of U.S. patent law. It explores the policy arguments for and against using patents as a mechanism for inducing technological innovation. The course will cover the central patentability criteria, including subject matter, novelty, nonobviousness, and adequate disclosure. We will also cover the scope of patent claims, ‎infringement, and remedies. Other important topics will include recent developments in patent law, including recent Supreme Court cases and the America Invents Act.

The American Bar Association accreditation standards require students to regularly attend the courses in which they are registered. Lewis & Clark expects students to attend classes regularly and to prepare for classes conscientiously. Specific attendance requirements may vary from course to course.
