- Description: This class examines the federal laws governing employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, citizenship status, religion, age and disability. The course will explore the policy grounds for employment discrimination laws and the various legal models created to address discrimination, including individual disparate treatment, systemic disparate treatment, disparate impact, harassment, affirmative action, and reasonable accommodation. Statutory coverage will include: Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Civil Rights Act of 1991, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Immigration Reform and Control Act, and 42 U.S.C. section 1981.

The American Bar Association accreditation standards require students to regularly attend the courses in which they are registered. Lewis & Clark expects students to attend classes regularly and to prepare for classes conscientiously. Specific attendance requirements may vary from course to course.
