Description: This course contextualizes the professional responsibility obligations of attorneys by helping students identify, analyze, and resolve ethical challenges that they may encounter in their careers. This course is meant to be interactive and fulfill the basic professional responsibility requirement, while also exploring practical solutions to ethical issues facing in-house, law firm, government agency, and solo practitioners.
The practice of law is ever-changing, with virtual legal services, licensed paraprofessionals, and artificial intelligence. In this course, students will work through challenging scenarios, which illustrate ethical problems in the real world, giving them the practical experience they need to identify and solve ethical problems they will face in their future practice area. By the end of this course, students will gain a deep insight into their ethical obligations as attorneys. Additionally, the course will cover the history, goals, structure, and values of the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct. Additionally, this course will aim to provide students with a survey of the basics of law practice, including understanding how to bill clients, create an engagement letter, and deal with real-world conflicts.
While this course may help prepare you for the MPRE, it is not fully taught towards that examination.
