Small Business Legal Clinic
Empowering Small Businesses Through Legal Guidance
Located in downtown Portland, the clinic pairs law student interns with Oregon entrepreneurs. Under the supervision of professors, staff attorneys, and pro bono attorneys, students provide a range of crucial transactional legal services, including:
- Entity selection and creation (including nonprofits)
- Contract review and drafting
- Lease review
- Regulatory compliance
- Employment advice, policies, and contracts
- Trade secret, copyright, and trademark protection
- Patent consultation and drafting (provisional and non-provisional)
The SBLC is the only USPTO-certified clinic program in Oregon providing both trademark and patent legal services.
This foundational legal support is often the crucial difference between an entrepreneur’s dream taking flight or being derailed by a preventable legal mistake.

Client Testimonial
- Matt Heldt More about Matt
In fall of my 2L year I did the Small Business Legal Clinic. My favorite part of the experience was that I did real legal work for real clients. Law school is mostly discussing past cases or closed-world hypotheticals, so doing work that made a real impact in my clients’ lives was extremely rewarding.
