National Children’s Advocacy Center

The National Children’s Advocacy Center (NCAC), located in Huntsville, Alabama, revolutionized the United States’ response to child sexual abuse. Since its creation in 1985, the NCAC has served as a model for the 1000+ Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs) now operating in the United States and in more than 27 countries throughout the world. Parents for Megan’s Law and the Crime Victim Center (PFML/CVC)

PFML/CVC provides a national helpline, community support, and assistance on issues related to Megan’s Law, sex offender management and sexual assault prevention. They are a New York State Certified Rape Crisis Center and are funded by the U.S. Justice Department to staff the National Megan’s Law Helpline to support the community when sex offender notifications are implemented and to provide appropriate law enforcement referrals when registrants are failing to comply with registration requirements.

Serving Maryland, the greater Washington DC area, and the greater Houston area, the Tahirih Justice Center provides legal and social services to immigrants escaping or experiencing gender-based violence. They can also provide specialized assistance to victims facing or fleeing forced marriages.
Court Appointed Special Advocate Program (CASA)
CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to advocate for abused and neglected children, and to make sure they don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system or languish in inappropriate group or foster homes. Volunteers stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home.
Klaas Kids Foundation
The Foundation’s mission is to stop crimes against children. The website contains links to each state’s “Megan’s Law” – a law that requires sex offender registration and community notification. The website also provides educational information regarding child safety and missing children.

NCMEC is a private, nonprofit organization which was created in 1984. NCMEC’s mission is to serve as the nation’s resource on issues of missing and sexually exploited children. The website contains resources and links for parents, children, advocates, and attorneys regarding issues of child safety, sex offenders, victimization, and recovery.

Child Advocacy Centers emphasize the coordination of investigation and intervention services by bringing together professionals and agencies as a multidisciplinary team to create a child-focused approach to child abuse cases. Parents of Murdered Children (POMC®) provides ongoing emotional support to help parents and other survivors of homicide facilitate the reconstruction of a “new life” and to promote a healthy resolution. Not only does POMC® help survivors deal with their grief, but also helps with advocacy in the criminal justice system. There are POMC® Chapters across the country which hold monthly meetings and provide support, advocacy, and court accompaniment. POMC®’s website provides numerous educational and support materials, and contains links to a topic forum that allows survivors to communicate with other survivors.
